Collection of plastic waste by the team of the Sebitoli Chimpanzee project

18 and 19 May 2020 : The first fundraising campaign of the year is organized!

Over two days, John, Edward and Ibrahim of the Sebitoli Chimpanzee project collected 1,884 bottles along the 4 km long road through Kibale National Park. Unfortunately, many people using this road unfortunately dispose of their plastic waste directly on the public highway, forgetting the damage it can cause to wildlife!

A total of 70.5 kg of plastic was collected. This can be related to an average of 376 bottles thrown away per month from vehicles using this route since January 2020.

The last collection was carried out in December 2019 and it was calculated that more than 600 bottles/month were thrown away from vehicles since July 2019.

This means that there has been a clear decrease in plastic pollution over the last few months!

However, even though our teams have been raising awareness since January 2020, the significant reduction in road traffic as a result of containment is certainly the primary cause of this reduction in pollution...
